I have almost ten years experience in the fitness industry, having built two gyms from the ground up. I have facilitated thousands of transformations with the large majority of them being weight loss. Today I want to share with you my experience and my thoughts on both the physical side of transformations as well as the emotional side of transformations. I want to share with you, what I see most women struggle with in hopes to start a conversation and to provide a roadmap on how to navigate this experience.
What I have noticed is women undergo a physical transformation, shredding anywhere between five and fifty kilos. They have lost the physical weight and are now at there goal size. But they are still unhappy. Why? They have yet to undergo the emotional transformation.
You see, setting a goal of stepping up on stage or doing a 100kg squat or losing 50kg is all well and good with the some of the reasons being –
- I want to feel more confident
- I want to be a role model for my family
- I want to be able to wear a bikini to the beach
- I want more energy
But what often gets skipped is the internal, deeper whys..
Why do you want to feel more confident? Wear a bikini? Be a role model?
I always ask my clients to give me there 5 Whys. It looks like this…
“I want to lose 10kg”.. WHY?
“Because I want to be fit and strong”… WHY?
“Because I want to be able to wear a bikini to the beach”… WHY?
“Because I want to feel more confident in myself”… WHY?
“Because deep down, I don’t love what I see in the mirror and want to get to the point where I can say I love myself”…
There it is. I normally find it is the 4th or 5th why that is the REAL reason why someone wants to lose weight etc. So I like to have a more holistic approach when it comes to achieving a goal. If there WHY is a lack of self love, then maybe we need to implement other things on top of the nutrition which will result in weight loss such as
- Mirror therapy
- Aromatic Dressings
Regardless of what shape or size you are, you are worthy. Before your 10kg weight loss you are worthy. Before you start your meal plan for stepping up on stage, you are worthy. You are worthy right now. And if this is not acknowledged and addressed then even when you reach your physical goal, you will still be unhappy with yourself and will continue to chase external validity, jumping from thing to thing to try and buy your worthiness.
Worthiness work starts with the decision of being done with where you are at. Deciding that in fact you are WORTH the time and effort. You are worth the commitment to yourself. And then putting a plan in place to start working on that worthiness.
Because life is too short to go another day with being at war with yourself.
